18-month timeline for Muscat dual carriageway project

Muscat: To reduce traffic congestion, the Muscat Municipality, in cooperation with the Ministry of Defence, will begin work to make the road extending from Muaskar Al Murtafa Roundabout to the intersection of Sultan Qaboos University a dual carriageway, along with the construction of intersections and a system for drainage of surface water.

According to the municipality, the project is expected to be completed within 18 months and will reduce the ever-increasing traffic congestion on the road.

In a statement, the Muscat Municipality stated: “The municipality, in cooperation with the Ministry of Defence, will start the implementation of the ‘duallism’ project of Al-Mawaleh Road, extending from Muaskar Al Murtafa Roundabout to the Armed Forces Hospital and then to the intersection of Sultan Qaboos University, raising the efficiency of the link between Al-Mawaleh intersection through the Armed Forces Hospital intersection to Muscat Expressway for a total length of 8 km.”

“The project also includes the ‘duallism’ of Sultan Qaboos University Street to the existing traffic light intersection next to the Sultan Qaboos Comprehensive Cancer Care and Research Centre, for a length of 1,200 metres,” MM added.
