In partnership with bp Oman, MEDRC concludes the fifth cycle of the TAHLYA programme

Muscat: In partnership with bp Oman, MEDRC held a graduation ceremony marking the closing of the TAHLYA V programme, under the patronage of H.E. Ali Mohammed Al Abri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources for Water Resources. TAHLYA V is the fifth cycle of the vocational training programme which aims at building the capacity of young Omanis and equipping them with the necessary skills to advance in the desalination sector in Oman. This year, a total of 68 Omanis graduated with 31 supervisors and 37 operators graduating from the programme.

Shamsa Al-Rawahi, bp Oman Social Investment Manager, commented: “Our partnership with MEDRC started in 2017 with the first cycle of the TAHLYA programme. The aim of which is to fill a gap in the local labour market specifically in the desalination sector. Over the years it successfully trained 330 young Omani jobseekers of which 56% are currently employed. We are proud of the programme achievements so far and are delighted to continue helping strengthen local capabilities."

Ciarán Ó Cuinn, MEDRC Centre Director, commented: “We are honoured to work with bp Oman to deliver this great programme that has transformed the desalination and water sector in Oman. The programme worked on developing the local potential, allowing them to take up new opportunities to support Oman’s economy. We are excited to announce that the sixth cycle of the TAHLYA program start this month and train an additional 76 trainees.”
