Muscat: Nafath Renewable Energy launched the fourth cycle of the ‘Mustadeem’ programme (‘Mustadeem 4’) in partnership with bp Oman, and in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Recourses. The programme will provide 50 independent 10kW solar energy systems for greenhouses and farms in areas affected by Cyclone Shaheen.
The programme will focus on Al Suwayq and Al Khabourah regions and will include training sessions for farmers and jobseekers on how to use those solar energy systems. This will help reduce electricity costs and enable the farmers to have a reliable power sources during power grid outages. In addition, the programme will offer courses to 150 university and college students, training opportunities for job seekers, and will allow SMEs to participate in implementing the programme in line with the national priorities of increasing in-country value.
Shamsa Al-Rawahi, bp Oman Social Investment Manager, commented: “This collaboration is a great example of how we can empower communities by investing in renewable energy sources. Not only will it help increase higher farming production rates, but it will reduce approximately 640 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions. This collaboration delivers on our aim at bp of achieving net zero emissions by 2050 and reimagining energy for our people and planet.
