Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurrana on his journey so far

Muscat: Ayushmann Khurrana, who was in Oman for a concert with his band Ayushman Bhava last weekend, spoke exclusively to Times TV about his journey in Bollywood, roles he has played, and his one true love — food.
"This is my first time in Oman. I'm really excited as I've only heard about Oman and had friends who studied here, so it is exciting," said Khurrana before his concert that dazzled scores of people that had gathered to watch him.
Khurrana is one of those artistes in the Indian film industry, who had to go through all the steps before becoming the established actor that he is today. "I started as a theatre actor in Chandigarh and then I did a lot of street and stage theatre, formed two theatre groups and then I became a radio presenter in Delhi and shifted to Bombay to become a television presenter and in 2012 Vicky Donor happened," he said.
Known as the poster boy of taboo Indian cinema, Khurranan has acted in unconventional movies and done unconventional roles in the last five years. "It's happened by chance also where I've been offered films, which are taboo related. In fact it’s a mix of both — I deliberately chose roles that were different and I started treading the unconventional journey from my first film," he explained.
Having done eight films, Khurrana is glad to have worked in different genres of cinemas and he credits the evolving industry and audience for his choices in movies. "This is the best period to be in. This is the time when it is going beyond nepotism. It’s just about your talent
now." He added, "I'm glad I’m born in this era. If I was born in the 70s or 60s, I wouldn't have become an actor. This is the time when every kind of film is working. So-called parallel cinema is also working. Now, because of multiplexes, increase in literacy rate and urbanisation people are loving this kind of cinema."
He is also one of the few actors who entered the industry after getting married. "Talent makes you desirable more than anything else, not your relationship status. Times are changing," he said, claiming his marital status didn't jeopardise his career.
Khurrana is also a big foodie. This was revealed when he was asked what he would do if he had only 24 hours left on this planet. "I'll eat a lot of food. I'm a compulsive eater and I'll just sleep. Eating, acting, singing in that order. One day on this planet I'll probably eat, watch movies, play music, and call artistes to perform for me," he said.
