Muscat: The shrimp fishing season begins on Thursday along the coasts of the Sultanate of Oman and will continue until the end of November. The shrimp fishing season is concentrated in the Al Wusta and South Al Sharqiyah Governorates and a number of wilayats of the Dhofar Governorate.
Shrimp is one of the important crustaceans due to its economic importance and good financial return to the Omani fishermen.
The total production of the Sultanate of Oman by the artisanal fishing in the 2021 season reached 1,130 tonnes, of which 887 tonnes were landed in the Al Wusta Governorate, and 243 tonnes in the South Al Sharqiyah Governorate. Its exports reached 484 tonnes, with a value of OMR948,000.
