Oman issues over 150 navigation licenses to foreign ships in 2022

Muscat: More than 150 navigation licences have been issued to foreign ships within the first six months of 2022 to work in Omani territorial waters.

A total of 167 navigation licences to foreign ships to work in Omani territorial waters was issued during the first half of this year.

This is an increase of 36 per cent compared to the same period in 2021, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology said on Tuesday.

Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology pointed that the licences issued to the ships included licences for tugs boat,  oil tankers, yachts, tour vessels, unloading vessels and service ships.

The number of services offered by the ship registration and maritime safety division during the first half of this year amounted to 1,685 services including 209 registration certificates of new sea units and 859 renewal certificates.

Regarding the certificates and documents for seamen, the ministry has issued 395 certificates and documents and 224 certificates related to marine activities during the first half of 2022.

This is an increase of 96 percent compared to the same period in 2021 besides issuance and renewal of 12 security compliance certificates for the ports’ facilities.

The number of ships inspected and details of it were saved to database of the ‘Riyadh Memorandum of Understanding’ and ‘Indian Ocean Memorandum of Understanding’. Inspection and control on vessels reached 135 ships during the first half of the year with 24 ships as violating ships.
