New committee to oversee auditing, internal control at civil units

Muscat: The Ministry of Finance has formed a joint committee with the State’s Audit Institution (SAI) to enhance the role of internal auditing and monitoring in civil units of the State’s Administrative Apparatus (government departments).

The new panel will also activate the Human Resources Development Plan and set up a comprehensive monitoring system.

The joint committee will take steps to refurbish the capabilities of employees of internal audit units by organizing training programmes, raise the efficiency of control over public spending and revenue collection.

It will also propose recommendations to grant internal audit departments complete autonomy, so that they could better exercise powers related to functional aspects.

The committee aims to train 900 employees in internal audit units and other civil departments. The overall objective is to regulate financial control measures, carry out projects in accordance with approved plans and legal procedures and raise Oman’s status in global indices about governance and institutional performance.
