Salalah: A medical team at the Cardiac Centre in Salalah managed to transplant two Watchman devices for patients suffering recurrent thrombosis due to atrial fibrillation.

Dr. Said Musallam Al Ma’ashani, Director of the Cardiology and Surgery Centre, said that the facility succeeded in this type of catheterisation operations for the first time in the Governorate of Dhofar. Earlier, such cases were treated either abroad or at The Royal Hospital (Muscat).

A Watchman device is planted in the atrial appendage of the left atrium in patients suffering atrial fibrillation and cannot take blood-thinning treatments due to frequent bleeding, Al Ma’ashani added. The two operated persons were aged above 60 years.
