CBO launches 'Tawasul' initiative in Dhofar

Salalah: The Central Bank of Oman (CBO) organized a ceremony at Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Entertainment here today to mark the start of a three-day awareness initiative codenamed “Tawasul” or “communication”.

The ceremony was held under the auspices of HH Sayyid Marwan Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar, and attended by government officials and private sector representatives.

Tahir Salim Al Amri, Executive President of CBO, gave a speech on the occasion indicating that the programme focuses on CBO’s role in enhancing social awareness about saving and the principles of responsible (informed) funding. Lectures and specialized workshops were held to discuss the latest developments in the banking sector and elucidate CBO’s role and responsibilities.

The ceremony included two visual presentations. The first featured the First National Strategy on E-payment Services and the role of the CBO in regulating national payment systems in the Sultanate of Oman. It was presented by Ali Hamad Al Jabri, Manager of Payment System Operations at the CBO.

The second display explored “responsible funding”, which is considered an important instrument in individuals’ decision making when borrowing or financing. It directs financial establishments to make products that meet the actual needs of consumers, their living standards and their ability to repay. The visual display was presented by Saud Saif Al Busaidi, Acting General Manager of Surveillance at the CBO.

The initiative, Tawasul, will be implemented in different governorates of the Sultanate of Oman this year (2022) and next year.
