Muscat: Oman’s national athletics team concluded their participation in the fifth edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games in Konya by winning one gold and two bronze medals.
On the last day of the athletics competitions, the team star, Fatek Beit Jaaboub clinched gold in the high jump while Barakat Al Harthy, Ammar Al Seifi, Muhammad Al Saadi and Ali Al Balushi won bronze medal in the 4 x 100 m relay, registering a new Omani record with a timing of 39.21 seconds.
The star of our national athletics team, sprinter Barakat Al Harthy bagged the first medal for Oman in the 100 metres race, clocking 9.99 seconds.
In his first participation in the general competitions, Mubeen Al Kindi threw the hammer to a distance of 57.26 metres in the final and runner-up Hussein Al Farsi recorded a timing of 4.03.37 in the 1,500m race. Mazoon Al Alawia finished the women’s 100 hurdles in 14.18 seconds.
Oman’s shooting team completed their competition in the trap category on Friday by achieving the ninth place in the mixed competitions (men and women), by hitting 128 dishes out of 150.
In the skeet category, the team finished their preparations for the tournament in the singles category, while the mixed competition will be on Tuesday.
The men’s team is represented by Yasser Al Nasiri, Naghmoush Al Hatali and Muhammad Al Gharbi and the women’s team is represented by Fatima Al Sulaimiya.
In the cycling competition, Mazen Al Riyami came 31st, while Munther Al Hasani was ranked 36th out of the 70 participants.
Omani swimmer Nasser Al Kindi participated in the 100m butterfly competition and recorded a timing of 1.03.90m, while Muhannad Awlad Thani took part in the 200m backstroke and recorded a time of 2.24.81m.
