Barakat bags bronze in Islamic Solidarity Games

Konya: Runner Barakat Al Harthy, player of the national athletics team, bagged the first medal for the Sultanate of Oman in the fifthedition of the Islamic Solidarity Games, held in Konya, Turkey, from 9 to 18 August 2022.

Barakat Al Harthy won the bronze medal in the 100-metre sprint, after finishing third in the race with a time of 9.99 seconds.

Runner Barakat Al-Harthy said: "After I won the bronze medal, I was also able to qualify for the World Athletics Championships in 2023, and there is no doubt that the past period was difficult because of the intense training and external camps in Turkey and by participating in a number of tournaments, which greatly contributed to my great readiness for participation in this course."

He added, “The race was very competitive with well-known runners in this category of races, and I am proud of my third place, and I dedicate this achievement and the bronze medal to everyone who supported me and supported me in my journey during the last period.”

On the other hand, the Sultanate of Oman’s mission participated in the official opening ceremony of the tournament’s competitions, in the presence of the participating delegations and fans at Konya Stadium with more than 40,000 spectators. The ceremony included a number of artistic entertainment and fireworks accompanying the ceremony.
