Healthcare system to get a major boost in Oman
Sultan Qaboos Hospital Project will .ater to the needs of citizens and residents in Dhofar

Salalah: In a major infrastructure push to healthcare in Oman, the Ministry of Health took stock of the upcoming 700-bed Sultan Qaboos Hospital in Salalah and also signed two agreements with Oman Liquefied Natural Gas (Oman LNG) company’s Development Foundation.

Being built at a cost of OMR138 million, 33 per cent of the hospital project and 75 per cent of the hospital building structure are already complete.

Sultan Qaboos Hospital Project is one of the promising projects in the Sultanate’s health sector that will cater to the needs of citizens and residents in the Dhofar Governorate.

His Highness Sayyid Marwan bin Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar paid a field visit to the project site on Tuesday in the presence of Dr. Hilal bin Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health, to see the work progress, scheduled for completion in 2024.

During the visit, Dhofar Governor praised the method of execution of the project which has made great strides in structural work in accordance with the approved technical and medical standards.

He said the project would enhance the health sector, mainly in the wilayats of Dhofar Governorate and in the Sultanate of Oman in general.

Jamal bin Salim Al Shanfari, Director General of the Directorate General of Projects and Engineering Affairs at the Ministry of Health made a video presentation on the components of the project standing on an area of approximately 222,000 sq. metres.

He said the main building of the new hospital would comprise specialised units for emergency and accidents cases, medical imaging, rehabilitation, chemotherapy, dialysis unit, burns unit, reconstruction unit, daytime clinics, child care unit, ICU for adults, strokes care unit, operation rooms, delivery theatres, private suites and VIP suite, among other units.

The hospital would also comprise an attached building housing lecture halls, health education sections, continuous education section, equipment divisions, medical apparatuses section, stores and laboratories and central sterilisation unit.

Dr. Ali Abdullah Al Maqbali, Director General at the Directorate General of Health Services in Dhofar Governorate, said the new hospital project is one of the strategic projects of the Ministry of Health and would make a qualitative shift in health services in Dhofar.

The two agreements with Oman Liquefied Natural Gas (Oman LNG) company involve funding for the purchase of an ultrasound system for the X-ray Department of Sinaw Hospital and financing a training programme for personnel tasked with infection control and sterilisation. The training programme will be conducted in accordance with international standards.

The agreements were signed by Dr. Fatma Mohammed Al Ajmi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Administrative, Financial and Planning Affairs and Al Ahnaf Ahmed Al Zubaidi, Director General of Corporate Development Affairs at Oman LNG.
