Equipped with the latest technology, the power distribution station feeds a number of existing and under construction projects.

Duqm: Efforts are being made by the Special Economic Zone Administration in Duqm (SEZAD) to ensure availability of power to investors. As part of the plan, a main transformer power station project with a capacity of 60 MVA at an estimated cost of about OMR2.6 million, was installed.

The project was executed by the Special Economic Zone Administration at Duqm in cooperation with the Rural Areas Electricity Company .

Engineer Said bin Ahmed bani Arabah, who is in-charge of the Department of Electricity and Water Regulation in the Special Economic Zone at Duqm, confirmed that the power distribution station is equipped with the latest electrical appliances in accordance with the Omani standard specifications and will feed a number of existing and under construction projects in the light industries and exhibition areas in the Special Economic Zone at Duqm through a distribution network consisting of underground 11 KV and 1415 volt cables.

He told Oman News Agency that the main station has a number of electrical transformers, and control rooms, and includes measuring and protection equipment and devices. The station will feed the current and future electrical loads in these areas according to the general plan of this area.

He added that a number of works to connect investors with the electricity network have been completed, while a number of requests to provide connections to projects under construction in the light industries area and the exhibition area are being dealt with.

He explained that work is underway to complete the connection work for 10 other investment projects under construction in the industrial zone, a factory for the manufacture of lighting lamps, and other targeted investments in the region.

Engineer Said bin Ahmed said the authority pays great attention to accelerating supply of electricity to investors, especially since the authority has amended the electricity service delivery regulation to speed up the pace of service delivery to investors, which had a positive impact in increasing the demand for electricity and increasing the number of subscribers in the economic zone of Duqm.

He  said that the number of electricity subscribers increased to about 5,031 by the end of 2021, compared to 3,490 in 2020, an increase of 30 percent.

He indicated that there are other projects in their final stages, examination stages and experimental operation, distributed in the targeted schemes of the region.

The implementation of the plan of the General Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones are being done in order to raise the attractiveness of schemes with the availability of services and increasing investors’ appetite for it.
