ABA graduates achieve world-class IBDP result

The Class of 2022 of ABA Oman International School celebrated outstanding results in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) exams. ABA graduates achieved an average point score of 34, surpassing the global average of 31.98 points.

Congratulations to David Hasler, who earned a top score of 43 points and is heading to the Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) in the Netherlands, to study Aerospace Engineering. The maximum points that can be awarded to an IB Diploma student is the full score of 45, with 42 points generated across the 6 subjects and 3 bonus points derived from Theory of Knowledge (ToK) and the Extended Essay (EE), as well as satisfactory completion of CAS (Creativity, Action and Service) requirements.

This year, 15% of the graduating class -Zaina Dabbous, Joseba Gallestegui-Goni, Jenin Al Taee, Yara Al Nourhji, Perrine Loubens, Darsh Pawani and Ishita Sharma - scored 40 or more points, the equivalent of 4 A* grades at A Level. In addition, Noor Al Akhzami and Branco Geertsema received a bilingual diploma, which is awarded to candidates who opt to study two language courses and receive a grade 3 or higher. ABA has a high participation rate of over 90% in the IB Diploma, with a pass rate of 93% this year.

Applauding the graduates on their success, ABA Head of School, Craig Williamson remarked, “We are delighted that the dedication, perseverance and determination of our students has resulted in exceptional scores. These results are a testament to our mission of providing holistic, world-class education that inspires and empowers our students to explore their unique pathways.”

The rigorous two-year IB Diploma is globally recognised as the gold standard in university acceptances. The 2022 cohort comprised 60 students representing 24 nationalities, who have secured places at some of the top universities worldwide in their chosen field of study, such as Medicine, Aerospace Engineering, Environmental Management, Sports Science, Law, Business, and more. ABA graduates received offers in more than one country, with 7 students receiving generous merit awards, one of them being a full-tuition scholarship for three years.

Simon Walker, Assistant Head of School and High School Principal, extolled the resilience and resolve of the 2022 cohort on navigating unprecedented adversities of the pandemic over the past few years, and rising to the occasion each time. “The IB prepares students to be future-ready, and our graduates are well-equipped to take on challenging responsibilities, having developed a strong foundation for inquiry and research in our dynamic learning environment. We wish them the very best in their journey of life-long learning.”

As ABA graduates set forth in pursuit of their personal and professional goals, Guy Essex, DP Coordinator, exhorted them to utilise their learnings to cultivate sustainable and equitable opportunities for all. “We are very proud of our graduates and their impressive accomplishments during extraordinary circumstances. We are certain they will thrive and excel in all that they do, while realising their full potential as confident and caring citizens of the world.”
