Heavy rainfall predicted in Oman on Tuesday, Wednesday

Muscat: Heavy rainfall is predicted over most governorates of the Sultanate of Oman on Tuesday and Wednesday, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said.

"Due to the very heavy rains which is expected on Tuesday and Wednesday ( estimated to be in the range of 20 to 100 mm ), the Civil Aviation Authority advices all to take maximum precaution during these upcoming days, stay alerted and avoid the sea and follow the issued weather bulletins and reports," CAA said in a statement.

On Tuesday Clouds Advection predicted over most governorates of Sultanate of Oman with chances of heavy thundershowers with different intensities over South Al Sharqiyah, North Al Sharqiyah, Muscat, Al Dakhiliyah, and South Al Batinah governorates where it extends to cover North Al Batinah, Musandam, Al Dhahirah and Al Buraimi governorates.

On Wednesday cloud advection will continue over most governorates of Sultanate of Oman with higher intensity of thundershower along Muscat, South Al Batinah, North Al Batinah and Musandam. Also, it may extend to cover the South Al Sharqiyah, North Al Sharqiyah, Al Dakhiliyah, Al Dhahirah and Al Al Buraimi.

The expected impacts for Tuesday and Wednesday ( 26-27th July 2022 ) are:

1- High amounts of rainfall varying between ( 20- 100 mm ) which may lead to the flow of wadis along with chances of water extending over some parts of low areas .

2- Fresh winds between 20-40 knots ( 40-80 km / h ) where it may cause flaying of unstable objects and materials.

3- Decrease in horizontal visibility to below ( 500 mm during heavy thunderstorms). The sea state will be rough along coastal areas with a maximum height of 4 metres.
