Five killed, 19 injured in Al Hamra bus accident

Muscat: Five people were killed and 14 others injured in a bus accident in the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate.

In a statement, the Royal Oman Police said: "Five people have died and 14 others sustained moderate to serious injuries when a bus carrying 19 passengers met with an accident in Al Jabal Al Sharqi in the Wilayat of Al Hamra in Al Dakhiliyah governorate."

In a statement, the Ministry of Social Development said that the bus carrying 19 passengers, including children, were on the way for a recreational trip.

The ministry said, “With great sadness and sorrow, the Ministry of Social Development received the news of a traffic accident in the eastern mountains of the Wilayat of Al Hamra. The bus was carrying some employees of the youth hostel and the children welfare Centre. Five people lost their life and 14 others were 14 injured, with injuries ranging from moderate to serious.”

The Ministry is closely following up with the authorities concerned about the details of the accident, hoping that the Almighty God bless the deceased with His mercy and forgiveness, and grant the injured a speedy recovery, health and wellness.

According to sources, the bus which met with accident in the Wilayat of Al Hamra, was on a trip organised by the Ministry of Social Development for orphans.

The Royal Oman Police announced that a specialised technical team from the General Traffic Department went to the site of bus accident belonging to the Ministry of Social Development, to determine the causes of the accident.
