Muscat: Most of the governorates in the Sultanate of Oman may witness some rains from Sunday onwards due to the tropical depression developing in the Arabian Sea.
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), in its weather report on Sunday said the latest satellite images and their analysis by the National Center for Early Warning of Multiple Hazards (NCEWMH), point to the formation of a low pressure area in the northeast of the Arabian Sea, that is, along the Indian coasts.
Meteorologists on Saturday said the depression would turn into a tropical depression near the Omani coast, about 964 km west of its current location, during the next two days.
The authorities also said this would lead to formation of clouds over most of the governorates in Oman with chances of scattered rains over the Al Hajar Mountains.
The impact would extend to the governorates of South and North Al Sharqiyah, South of Muscat and North Al Wusta tomorrow, Sunday, with rainfall ranging between 20 and 60 mm.
The Civil Aviation Authority confirmed that the impact is expected to extend to the governorates of South and North Al Sharqiyah, Muscat, South and North Al Batinah, Al Dakhiliyah, Al Dhahirah, Al Buraimi, Al Wusta and Musandam on Monday with rainfall with varying intensity between 30 and 80 millimeters.
The CAA confirmed that medium to heavy clouds continued to form today along the coasts of the Sea of Oman and over parts of the governorates of North and South Sharqiyah, Al Wusta and Al Dakhiliyah, parts of the Western and Central Al Hajar Mountains. There were chances of light rains over these areas, it said.
