Muscat: A partially inflated beach ball, which was lost to the sea, proved to be a priceless gift for a man who clung on to it for 18 hours and was finally rescued.
The incident took place in Myti beach in Kassandra, Greece and the man was visiting on a holiday when he was swept out to sea. The man has been identified as Ivan, 30, from North Macedonia.
According to online news portal wwnews, Ivan was caught in powerful currents and his friends reported the incident to the coastguard.
When at sea, he saw the ball floating towards him and he held on to it to help in float. Rescuers spotted him around 18 hours later and he was pulled out of the water and is in good health.
His friend, identified as Martin Jovanovski, however, is still missing, wwnews reported.
