Over 250,000 livestock imported for Eid Al-Adha

Muscat: In the run-up to the Eid Al-Adha festival, more than 269,000 livestock have been imported to ensure a constant supply of animal products in the context of preparations and to meet the consumers' needs for red meat.

The Ministry of Agricultural, Fisheries Wealth and Water Resources said: "The ministry is working on permanent coordination with companies to import livestock, providing all facilities and simplifying procedures and conditions in the process of issuing licenses for them during this period to import different livestock in order to ensure the continuation of the supply chain for animal products in the framework of preparations for Eid al-Adha for the year 1443 AH, and to meet the consumers’ needs for red meat.”

The ministry revealed that 269,342 livestock were imported during the period from June 1 to July 5, including 10,405 cows and 258,937 sheep from a number of livestock exporting countries such as Somalia, Sudan and Kenya, and it is expected that nearly 80,000 livestock will arrive in the coming days.
