Muscat: Bounced cheques once again top the list of most crime committed in 2018, according to the Public Prosecution.
Speaking at the Public Prosecution’s annual press conference, Dr Ahmed bin Said Al Shukaily, assistant public prosecutor said that overall crime in the Sultanate had decreased last year compared to the year before.
“The top five crimes committed last year, are as follows, firstly bounced cheques with 4,715 cases, followed by drug related crimes with 2,327 crimes, theft with 2,302, then labour laws violations with 2,217 and finally insult of dignity with 1,519.”
“Eight out of every 1,000 persons were accused. Overall there were 27,672 cases recorded by the Public Prosecution last year, 14 cases less compared to the year before,” Dr Al Shukaily added.”
