Muscat: All the commercial and government berths, as well as liquid and bulk material facilities at the Port of Duqm in the Special Economic Zone at Duqm (Sezad), are progressing at a fast pace.
“The company is relentlessly working with the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (Opaz) on the installation of new cranes which would make a difference in the handling of containers at the port,” Reggy Vermeulen, Chief Executive Officer of Port of Duqm Company, said.
The company is expecting to receive a number of gantry cranes and heavy bridge cranes at the beginning of next year to bring the total handling of heavy equipment to seven mobile cranes and twelve bridge cranes, he further added.
He reaffirmed that the development operations at the port are smoothly progressing as the company is working in cooperation with Asyad Group to enter into joint ventures with the group.
He said that Port of Duqm Company has sought to involve the largest number of Omanis in logistics operations through partnership with Asyad.
“Duqm port witnesses increasing activities in fish products as the company is cooperating with Oman Fisheries Company which increased its fleet and is well prepared for exporting through the port which also witnesses increasing activities related to the sectors of oil, gas and refineries,” he further added.
The Omanisation percentage in Port of Duqm Company has reached 90 per cent and said that this percentage would increase in the upcoming stages.
