Los Angeles: Actor Linda Hamilton is all set to reunite with director James Cameron for the new installment of the "Terminator" franchise. The 60-year-old actor, who essayed the role of Sarah Connor in the cult sci-fi movie, will make a comeback to play one of the silver screen's strongest female heroines, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Cameron, 63, made the announcement a private event celebrating the popular franchise, where the filmmaker said he aims to make a statement on gender roles in action movies with the Hamilton's return. "As meaningful as she was to gender and action stars everywhere back then, it's going to make a huge statement to have that seasoned warrior that she's become return.
"There are 50-year-old, 60-year-old guys out there killing bad guys but there isn't an example of that for women," the director said. Hamilton had first appeared in "The Terminator" (1984), was followed by "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" (1991). The films featured Arnold Schwarzenegger, who played the titular role of both the good and bad robots from the future. He is also onboard the film, which will be directed by "Deadpool" helmer, Tim Miller from the story crafted by Cameron.
Cameron, who is producing the film with Skydance, are treating the new movie as a direct sequel to "Judgment Day". Other "Terminator" titles include - "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines" (2003), "Terminator Salvation" (2009) and "Terminator Genisys" (2015).
