Follow safety guidelines to prevent fire incidents at fuel stations :CDAA

Muscat: The Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) has urged drivers to adhere to safety guidelines at fuel filling stations to avoid fires.

The CDAA said in a statement: "The reasons for petrol station fire are due to the non-compliance of drivers, using unsuitable containers, and fuel leaking from the vehicle tank while filling petrol. In addition workers' inability to deal with the fire in its early stages and filling the fuel tanks without discharging the static electricity. "

The Authority urged drivers to abide by the safety instructions issued, not to move the vehicle prior to ensuring that the station attendant has removed the fuel nozzle from the vehicle. Also not to use mobile phones while filling petrol and not to smoke at the petrol station.

The petrol stations are considered high risk locations, especially during the high temperature conditions in summer, considering the large quantity of hazardous and highly flammable material , which require utmost care and diligence.
