Muscat: More than 500 wild saplings were planted in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate.
Oman News Agency (ONA) reported that the Environment Department of Nizwa in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate implemented the second phase of planting Omani wild trees in the public site designated for cultivation operations, with wide community participation from the people of the Wilayat.
Issa bin Abdullah Al Yahmadi, Director of the Environment Department in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, said that the planting comes as a continuation of the success of the national initiative to plant 10 million trees and in conjunction with the activities of the World Environment Day, which falls on June 5 of each year.
Al Yahmadi stressed that today more than 500 wild trees (Sidr and Ghaf) have been planted, as this initiative aims to increase green spaces, reduce desertification, and use the treated sewage plant water to irrigate those trees.
