Oman-Pakistan Friendship Cup receives overwhelming response

Muscat: The final and closing ceremony of ‘Oman-Pakistan Friendship Cup’ a 5-match bilateral hockey series was held at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex on September 15, 2017 with His Highness Juland Al Said gracing the occasion as Chief Guest.
Ambassador Sheikh Hilal Marhoon Salim Al Maamary, Chief West Asia represented the government with presence of diplomatic corps, public and private media, businessmen, executives and leaderships of Pakistan Hockey Federation and Oman Hockey Association.
His Highness appreciated the initiative by Embassy of Pakistan to introduce the event and commended the overwhelming response from the spectators, including 200 school children, who packed the venue with not a single vacant seat. His Highness observed that colorful proceedings with crowds chanting slogans in favor of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, bilateral friendship and waving national flags was reflective of unique bilateral affinity.
The Ambassador of Pakistan Ali Javed praised His Majesty Sultan Qaboos for providing a home away from home to 272,000 Pakistanis prospering peacefully in Oman. He thanked the support from Pakistan and Oman Hockey and the overwhelming response from the community, public and private sector towards hosting the Bilateral Friendship Cup.
At half time, the chief guest distributed certificates to Ahmed Abdul Hamid (Grade-10) and Rasil Ahmed Khulaksha (Grade-9) winners and runners-up of the “Sketch Jinnah” competition adjudged by artist Stephen Grant as 6000 Pakistani students competed to mark the death anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Al Jinnah, Founder of Pakistan.
The event was sponsored by Stars Light and Syed Fayyaz Group, Oman Air, SalamAir, Omantel, PIA, Air Blue, Shaheen Air, Habib Bank,Gulf Neon Signs and Oasis Water. A raffle draw was held and five air tickets from Oman Air, Salam Air, PIA, Air Blue and Shaheen Air were given away, five mobiles phones were gifted by Omantel and two 65" TVs from Habib Bank.
The final match of ‘Oman-Pakistan Friendship Cup’ which was held at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex, Bausher, was broadcast live on Omani TV.
