Muscat: Pakistan nationals travelling from Muscat back home now have more options to choose from as Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has added two new routes.
Talking exclusively to Times of Oman, Shahzad Paracha, country manager of PIA said that the new destinations were added to the national carrier’s existing routes earlier this month. “On April 4 we added Lahore-Muscat as a new destination which will be flying three times a week. In addition to that, we will now be adding Islamabad-Muscat starting April 23 which will also be flying three times a week,” Paracha said.
PIA recently won the longest operating carrier award in Oman at the Oman Airport Awards 2019. It operates a weekly flight to Peshawar, and flies twice to Sialkot, Gwadar and Turbat in Pakistan from Muscat International Airport.
“The news came at just the right time as I was planning to book a flight back home to my city, Islamabad, to celebrate Eid holidays with friends and family. I am just going to hold off until April 23 so as soon as it is officially announced, I can book it right away. I am extremely glad that the airline is continuing with its expansion plans and adding more cities to its itinerary,” said Khurram Tahir, a Pakistan expat based in Muscat.
Another expat doctor at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital, who hails from Lahore but could not get a direct flight, said she missed the chance of booking her flight by five days.
“When the news came that PIA had started flying to Lahore, I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry as I had already booked my flight home five days before. Because I couldn’t find a direct flight to Lahore that would fit my schedule, I booked Sialkot and have asked my husband to fetch me from there.”
“However, I am really excited with this new addition as travelling back home will be more convenient.”
