Regular inspection to protect, preserve wildlife in Al Dhahirah Governorate

Muscat: The Environment Administration in Al Dhahirah Governorate is one of the premier institutions promoting environmental culture and preserving environment through application of laws related to the protection and preservation of wildlife.

It takes initiatives to achieve a clean and sustainable environment in Al Dhahirah Governorate.

Fahd bin Saeed bin Khalfan Al-Nasri, Acting Director of Environment Administration in Al-Dhahirah Governorate, talked about inspection visits carried out by environment inspectors and technicians to quarries, crushers, factories and companies to ensure the environmental concerns are taken care of. There were 48 visits in the first quarter of 2022 and five violations were found.

The number of monitoring observations of wildlife reached 16, which included Arabian gazelle, birds of prey and some reptiles.

The administration conducts patrols to monitor wildlife throughout the day to prevent wildlife violations.

Despite that, the authorities face several challenges in monitoring and documenting wildlife due the large area of the Al Dhahirah Governorate and of mountainous nature.

The number of awareness campaigns reached 7 in partnership with several bodies in education and agriculture sectors.

Among the important initiatives that the administration seeks to achieve is the national initiative to plant 10 million wild trees.

The number of planted trees until April 2022 reached 5,383. It is expected to plant 40,000 seedlings this year.
