Muscat: More than 200 violations of the Fishing Law were recorded in April 2022 in Oman.
"The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, represented by the Department of Fisheries Control and Licenses, monitored during the month of April 242 violations of the Fishing Law," Oman News Agency (ONA) said in a statement.
The number of violations were distributed between not extracting, renewing or carrying licenses to practice, boats, ships, transport and marketing 207, and using or possessing prohibited fishing equipment and devices were 17 violations. Four violations were monitored for fishing or possession of lobster outside the season and three violations for not placing plates on boats and ships.
While one violation was detected for fishing or possession of abalone outside the season, one violation was related to the employment of unlicensed expat workers, and nine other violations related to the fishing activity.
The Department of Fisheries Control and Licenses managed during the month of April to confiscate 730 kilograms of fish, and recorded 31 of the seizures, consisting of three boats or ships, three engines, four equipment and 20 fishing net and expat workers.
