Oman attracted over OMR17 Billion investment in 2021
The total FDI inflow reflects a 7.7 percent increase over the number for 2020, when it stood at OMR15.86 billion.

Muscat: Foreign direct investment amounting to more than OMR17 billion came to Oman in 2021, according to figures published by the government.

FDIs amounted to OMR17.08bn by the end of the fourth quarter of 2021, according to the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI). The FDIs coming into Oman reflect a 7.7 percent rise in investment compared to 2020, when OMR15.86bn was invested.

The UK is Oman’s biggest foreign investor, with investments amounting to OMR7.873bn, followed by the United States at OMR2.22bn. China invested about OMR862mn.

Among the Gulf countries, the United Arab Emirates is the largest investor in Oman, at OMR1.048bn, with Kuwait (OMR937.6mn) and Qatar (OMR313mn) are also significant investors.

The oil and gas extraction sector accounted for the largest proportion of FDIs during 2021, with a value of OMR11.83bn, an increase of 15.08 percent compared to the same period in 2020. The financial services sector came in second at OMR1.446bn, a drop of 1.81 percent.

Manufacturing industries (OMR1.395bn) and the real estate sector (OMR1.147bn) also accounted major investment volume. Other sectors accounted for OMR1.256bn, a decrease of 4.71 percent compared to the same period in 2020.
