Muscat: Restoration work has been completed at some sites of the Land of Frankincense in the Dhofar Governorate.
Oman News Agency (ONA) revealed that the Directorate General of Heritage and Tourism in the Governorate of Dhofar, represented by the Department of Land of Frankincense Sites, has completed restoration work on some sites of the Land of Frankincense registered in the World Heritage List.
Ali bin Salim Al Kathiri, Director of the Land of Frankincense Sites Department at the Directorate , said that the restoration work has been completed at the archaeological site of Samharam (Khor Rori) and the archaeological Castle of Al Baleed.
Al Kathiri added that the restoration work started at the end of December 2021 and lasted for more than three months, noting that these works come within the Ministry's plan to sustain the architectural heritage and historical and heritage monuments and employ them for the requirements of the tourism sector through the rehabilitation, maintenance and restoration of archaeological sites.
Al Baleed, Samharam, Bar and Wadi Dawkah are sites registered in the World Heritage List under the name of the Land of Frankincense Sites. The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism represented by the Directorate General of Heritage and Tourism in the Governorate of Dhofar is developing it and providing it with service and aesthetic facilities with the aim of promoting cultural and archaeological tourism in the Governorate of Dhofar.
