MSX index ends marginally lower

Muscat: The MSX index closed at 4,219.3 points, down by 0.38 per cent from the previous close. The Sharia Index ended down by 0.31 per cent at 481.97 points.

Dhofar Generating, up 4.84 per cent, was the top gainer while, Sembcorp Salalah, down 4.88 per cent, was the top loser. Shares of National Bank Oman were the most active in terms of the number of shares traded while Oman Telecom were the most active in terms of turnover.

A total number of 431 trades were executed during the day's trading session, generating a turnover of OMR7.19 million, with more than 24.95 million shares changing hands. Out of 49 traded securities, 5 advanced, 21 declined, and 23 remained unchanged. At the session close, foreign investors were net sellers for OMR82,000 while GCC & Arab investors for OMR75,000 worth of shares.

Financial Index closed at 6,679.1 points, down 0.3 per cent. Bank Muscat was the sole gainer up by 1.12 per cent. Prices of National Finance, National Bank Oman, Al Anwar Investment, Al Sharqia Investment and Muscat Finance were down by 3.20 per cent, 2.86 per cent, 2.25 per cent, 2.08 per cent and 1.41 per cent respectively.

Industrial Index closed at 6,113.22 points, down 0.25 per cent. Prices of National Aluminium and Voltamp Energy were up by 2.25 per cent and 1.98 per cent respectively. Prices of Raysut Cement, Galfar Engineering, Al Anwar Ceramics and Oman Cement were down by 1.20 per cent, 0.96 per cent, 0.88 per cent and 0.80 per cent respectively.

Services Index was down by 0.72 per cent before closing at 1,660.26 points. Prices of Dhofar Generating and Oman National Engineering were up by 4.84 per cent and 0.93 per cent respectively. Prices of Sembcorp Salalah, Al Suwadi Power, Al Batinah Power, Al Jazeera Services and Oman Telecom were down by 4.88 per cent, 2.00 per cent, 2.00 per cent, 1.40 per cent and 0.9 per cent respectively.
