Two students die in accident in Oman

Muscat:Two students of The University of Technology and Applied Science lost their lives in an explosion on Tuesday, barely days after three other students died in a vehicle accident last Thursday.

The University mourned the loss of life in a statement on Tuesday, "The University mourns two of our students, Al Hawari Bin Ali Bin Nasser Al Shaibani and Al Munir bin Hilal bin Abdullah Al Shaibani who were from the University branch in Nizwa and who passed away as a result of an accident."

"We ask God Almighty to bless them with the vastness of his mercy and to inspire their families and provide them patience and solace," the University added.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the students died at their residence and were in the possession of very old projectiles recovered by them from a mountainous area, according to the Royal Oman Police.

"The death of two students at their residence in the Wilayat of Nizwa this evening, and preliminary investigations show that they were tampering with objects suspected of being very old projectiles found by the students in a mountainous area, which led to an explosion, and investigations are still trying to find out the circumstances of the incident," the police said.

"The Royal Oman Police calls upon everyone not to tamper with or deal with any suspected foreign objects, and to report them immediately to the nearest police station or call the Police Operations Center on the number 9999."

Last Thursday, a bus derailment off the Al Batinah highway claimed the lives of 3 students and 7 other people were injured seriously.
