Muscat: The Directorate General of Health Services of Muscat Governorate (DGHS-Muscat) in cooperation with Muscat Municipality and other related authorities launched on Wednesday ‘Muscat Campaign to Combat Aedes aegypti mosquitos' at Muscat Mall.
The campaign was launched under the theme “Be the Change” and will continue till April 30. Dr. Thamra Said Al-Ghafri, Directorate General of Health Services, Muscat Director General along with a number of officials attended the launch ceremony.
The event included an exhibition introducing the Aedes aegypti mosquitos that causes dengue fever, and the combat efforts after it was discovered in a number of places in Muscat Governorate. The event also touched upon the importance of environmental sanitation and community partnership to eradicate the mosquitos.
Dr. Thamra Al-Ghafri pointed out the important role of the community in the success of the campaign, underlying the need for community interaction with the organizers.
Dr. Shawqi Abdulrahman Al-Zadjali, assistant Director-General of Health Affairs at Muscat Municipality stressed the importance of environmental sanitation through the disposal of solid wastes, all forms of the watershed in the houses, closing water tanks tightly and disposal of used tires and utensils. In addition, he touched upon taking prevention and engineering measures (environmental measures), as well as biological and chemical control.
The Ministry of Health along with Muscat Municipality in collaboration with Walis offices have completed all preparations to implement the campaign throughout the wilayats, whether by the plans or providing the required resources (human recourses & pesticides and equipment) or training the field teams or the other logistic services.
