Muscat: The Capital Market Authority (CMA) reviewed with the members of the Omani Medical Association the execution of the health insurance scheme for the employees of the private sector, residents and visitors.
More than 30 doctors participated from different medical specialities to acquaint them with the developments of the project, medical coding systems and related training programmes.
The meeting discussed the progress of the project and the achievements in the regulatory infrastructure of the health insurance ecosystem as well as the work of the first phase of the Dhamani platform which is the key step to coping with the technological revolution in health insurance transactions because it links private health institutions, insurance companies and the regulators. The platform provides investment opportunities for technology companies.
Dhamani would provide quality health and insurance services as well as speed the transactions related to treatment approvals further to its positive effect on enhancing the supervision of the services for the protection of the patients.
The meeting discussed the ongoing efforts in the medical coding project which the CMA has placed among the regulatory projects of Dhamani which is concerned with the coding of names, medical terminology, medical and surgical procedures and diseases in a unified coding system. CMA concluded a contract with the American Medical Association to provide a CPT license for the Dhamani platform and conducted a training program in medical coding.
Said Sulaiman Al Saadi, Director of the Health Insurance Supervision Department gave a speech in the meeting on the importance of such meetings with the partners in the project emphasising that the main object of the project is to provide health care for all, hence providing insurance coverage for the expatriates and residents in the Sultanate of Oman is a human and social necessity. He pointed out that Dhamani platform is one of the pillars of the project to link the parties such as government entities, insurance companies and health services providers to exchange information on health insurance transactions.
He added that CMA contacted with the American Medical Association to provide a CPT license for use by insurance companies and private health institutions which would contribute to the quality of the insurance services and increase the level of transparency and accuracy in all the transactions.
It is worth noting that the CMA is preparing the regulatory and technological infrastructure for the compulsory health insurance project for the employees of the private sector, residents and visitors in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Labour, Public Authority for Social Security and Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry based on an assignment from the Council of Ministers.
