Herons settle down in Daymaniyat Islands Reserve
Environment Authority spotted white and gray herons in the Daymaniyat Islands Reserve, Muscat.

Muscat: The Environment Authority spotted white and gray herons in the Daymaniyat Islands Reserve, Muscat.

Hamoud Khamis Al Neeri, Environmental Systems Specialist said that nests of the two species of birds were spotted, in addition to several tern birds in one of the reserve’s islands. Those birds are considered among the first migratory birds to arrive in the reserve during this season.

On his turn, Mohammed Nasser Al Sa’adi, Head of Natural Reserves Development Department said that the Daymaniyat Islands Reserve comprises 9 islands. Each island houses a spectrum of wild plants, grass, seaweed and marvelous white beaches. These ecosystems are a safe haven for nesting turtles, as well as local and migratory seabirds.

The marine environment in the Daymaniyat Islands inhabited by diverse marine creatures, such as marine mammals and various types of fish.

The reserve is also known for its coral reefs which can be seen from the surface of the pristine and transparent sea water.
