Muscat: The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) held a meeting on Sunday with the suppliers of commodities in Muscat Governorate as part of the preparations for the Holy Month of Ramadan.
The meeting dealt with intensifying control on commodities and prices to ensure availability of commodities and services, stable prices of the same for consumers and proper implementation of Value Added Tax (VAT).
During the meeting, Sulayem bin Ali Al Hakmani, Chairman of the Consumer Protection Authority said that the upcoming period would witness strict control to ensure stability of prices of commodities.
He pointed to that field teams would approach the various commercial centres and outlets to follow with prices and in case of any violations registered the violating vendors / providers would be dealt with in accordance with the applicable procedures.
The awareness of consumers while shopping would contribute to facilitating the mission and tasks of the Consumer Protection Authority to this end, he added.
The meeting stressed the necessity for providing consumers with real promotional offers that touch with the requirements of consumers.
The meeting discussed a number of issues related to some commodities and acquainted with the efforts of suppliers on provision of basic commodities on the advent of the Month of Ramadan.
