CAA's revenues cross OMR 45 million in 2021

Muscat: The total revenues of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has exceeded OMR 45 million by the end of 2021, an increase of 18 per cent compared to 2020, the Chairman of the CAA said.

"The total revenues of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) at the end of 2021 increased by 18 percent to reach OMR 45,612,474 compared to the end of 2020," Eng Nayef bin Ali Al Abri, Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority said.

The Chairman referred to the most prominent achievements and works carried out by the authority in the last year, including achieving 100 per cent in the International Civil Aviation Organisation index of global reports for assessing the state of airport runways.

His Excellency confirmed that the authority has completed 75 per cent of the requirements for accrediting the Oman Aviation Academy in 2021, has formed a national committee for climate change and the protection of the ozone layer.

"The movement of passengers at Muscat International Airport witnessed an increase of 8 per cent, bringing the number of passengers by the end of 2021 to 3,751,355, compared to the same period in 2020, while the cargo movement recorded about 108,846 tonnes. The number of flights through the airport reached 40,889 flights, " the Chairman said.

The Chairman also indicated that the number of passengers through Salalah Airport increased by 134 per cent to reach 906,727  at the end of last year. The cargo movement grew to 7,487 tonnes and the number of flights reached 10,076.

Eng Nayef Al Abri revealed that by the end of 2021, Sohar and Duqm airports witnessed an increase in the number of passengers  by 54 per cent and 95 per cent, respectively.

The Chairman clarified that the total air traffic in the Sultanate of Oman by the end of 2021 amounted to 315,035 flights, of which the transit aircraft constituted 80 per cent.

His Excellency indicated that the total number of countries with which Oman signed air transport agreements reached 118 for 2021 with an average of 62 open sky agreements.
