Oman tennis: Fatma Al Nabhani maintains winning run in Spain

Muscat: Omani star Fatma Al Nabhani continued with her winning run in Spain storming into the singles quarterfinals and doubles semifinals of the $15,000 ITF Pro Circuit Las Palmos de Gran Canaria tournament on Wednesday.

In a singles second round match, top seeded Fatma thwarted a late charge by German qualifier Vivien Klein for a straight sets 6-0, 6-4 victory.

In the quarterfinals, Fatma will square off against Portuguese sixth seed Ines Murta who booked her place in the last eight stage with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Spanish qualifier Lidia Moreno Arias.

Later in the evening, Fatma and her Spanish partner Arabela Fernandez Rabener overcame a spirited fight from Fiona Codino of France and Jil Nora Engelmann of Germany for a 6-2, 6-4 win in the doubles quarterfinals.

The third seeds will now take on second-seeded pair of Melaine Klaffner of Austria and Fanny Ostlund of Sweden in the semifinals.

Melaine and Fanny reached the last four with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Spain’s Almudena Sainz-Llanega Fernandez and Great Britain’s Tiffany William.
