Orpic bags five awards at Asian best employer brand function

Muscat: Oman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries Company (Orpic) was felicitated with five top awards at the eighth Asia’s Best Employer Brand Awards 2017 which was held on August 1, 2017 in Sentosa, Singapore. This prestigious event attracts more than 200 companies from Asia-Pacific (APAC) Region and over 400 senior HR leaders from the industry in addition to top global brands across the industry, said a company release.
Orpic received 5 top awards at this glittering ceremony on the categories of “Diversity Impact Award”, “Excellence in Training and development; Best Results Based Training Award”, “Best Leadership Development Programme for Workers Award”, “Excellence in Training and Development Awards” and “Best Education Management Programmes Award”.
“It is a great honour to receive five awards which is a testament of our commitment and hard work towards our value to aim for a leading performance. Orpic has been putting constant efforts to attract, retain and develop its employees while at the same time embarks on a number of regular training programmes and initiatives for both fresh graduates and employees throughout the year,” said Nofal Al Saidi, general manager – HRS – at Orpic.
“Our main goal is to ensure that we carry out the best learning and development programs to bring the best potential of our people; paving the road to build Omani leaders for tomorrow,” noted Ali Al Mahruqi, Manager, Learning and Development.
Saeed Al Hashmi, Manager HR Strategy and Talent Acquisition (HRSTA) said: “Ever since I was appointed on this role, the focus on our people has been given the top priority with clear commitment to attract the right talents through a number of campaigns, programs and initiatives both locally and internationally”.
Orpic places a significant importance to the learning and development to its people. In 2016, each employee attended an average of 4 training courses, approximately 64 training hours per employee per year which is higher than the recommended industry average of 32 hours.
To date, 14 Orpic employees are enrolled into Diploma Degree and Masters Programmes both in local and international institutions. Orpic has a unique Leadership program called Arriyadah, this programme is aimed developed deep leadership competencies for people leaders delivered by top class global leadership training providers. Apart from this, Orpic also has a unique programme designed for hi-potential employees called Talents Development Programme. This programme is aimed to develop leadership and management competencies preparing talents for higher responsibilities and supporting the succession planning process. A total of 36 employees completed this program in 2016 earning them a Level 5 CMI qualification.
To meet Orpic strategic growth, every year, Orpic recruits about 150-300 fresh technical graduates. The trainees are put through a Trainee Development Programme, which consist of 6 months classroom and 6 months on the job training. To date, 844 trainees have been successfully inducted into various plants across Orpic.
Started in 2014, the Orpic International Scholarship Programme is a nation building initiative to recognized top talents and provide them with top class education. Designed to prepare Oman’s most talented young people for personal and professional success, the program takes them to some of the prestigious learning institutions around the world. To date, Orpic has 20 scholars in top schools around Europe, Canada and USA.
