Muscat: The Ministry of Transport, Communications has maintained asphalt roads damaged by Cyclone Luban that occurred in Dhofar Governorate in 2018 by spending over OMR 1 million.

Eng  Said bin Mohammed Tabuk, Director General of Roads and Land Transport in the Governorate of Dhofar, confirmed  that the ministry is currently implementing a number of maintenance projects for asphalt and dirt roads in the mountainous and desert areas linking the governorate’s wilayats.

Regarding the projects currently underway, Eng  Said said: "There are several projects, including the project for the maintenance of asphalt roads damaged as a result of Cyclone Luban, at a cost of OMR 1,389,000 and the annual maintenance project for the dirt roads network in the governorate in (mountainous areas) for a period of five years from 2021-2026 at a cost of OMR 2,172,348."

He added that the annual maintenance project for the dirt roads network in the Governorate of Dhofar is also underway in (desert areas) for a period of 5 years from 2021-2026 at a cost of OMR 2,491,533.

"A project to repair damages on (Mirbat-Hasek-Shwaimiya) road as a result of the Dhofar Tropical Depression 2020, with a value of OMR 1,182,231, will also be implemented," Director General of Roads and Land Transport said.
