'Atlas of Clinical Fungi' inaugurated in Oman

Muscat: The Natural and Medical Sciences Research Centre at the University of Nizwa inaugurated the book "Atlas of Clinical Fungi " by Dr. Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Saeed Al-Hatmi, assistant professor and in charge of the microbiology laboratory at the centre.

About the publication, Dr. Abdullah Al-Hatmi said: “The Atlas is the first and comprehensive reference for everything that students, doctors, specialists and scientists need in the field of pathogenic fungi in the world as it shows that many fungi can cause opportunistic infections, especially for many lesser known genera. "

Dr. Al-Hatami stated: "The first atlas of fungi was published in 2000, and it is the most famous book in the world on fungi of medical importance. After more than 20 years, the book was printed again in its fourth edition in full colour, including 1,600 pages in two volumes, with more than 700 pictures in full color. Most pathogenic fungi since the beginning of medical mycology in 1840, chapters on diagnostic methods, antifungals, recommended treatment, and evolution, along with illustrative chapters on major fungal groups, with more than 8000 references, atlas now available online, the website has many convenient search options, using names, diseases or other words and terms as keywords."

The Atlas is divided into two volumes. It is a global resource that can be used by scientists, doctors and specialists in bacteriology, as well as graduate students in faculties of medicine and sciences in medical microbiology, in addition to the possibility of using it in hospitals for diagnosis by laboratory and medical staff.
