Muscat: The number of Social Security Scheme cases stood at 72,707 till the end of February this year and these received a monthly pay of OMR7,681,915.
This was unveiled at a statement issued by Ministry of Social Development on Wednesday.
The statement indicated that a total sum of OMR107,546,810 is being paid on an annual basis, after the addition of two extra salaries during Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Ad’ha.
The ministry valued the Royal directives issued by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to disburse an additional pay for Social Security Scheme beneficiaries upon the advent of Ramadan and to alleviate the impact, on this segment, of high prices of commodities and services.
The ministry also expressed gratitude for Royal directives to revise social assistance programmes and principles of calculation of Social Security allocations.
The ministry explained that the Social Security Sector covers the segments of orphans, widows, the elderly, the deserted, the divorced, unmarried girls, the decrepit, families of the imprisoned and other special segments.
