Muscat: The Omani trade delegation discussed with the Ministers of Trade and Finance of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka ways to enhance trade cooperation and financial facilities for Omani traders and investors.
"Dr Bandula Gunawardana, Minister of Trade of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, received His Excellency Eng Ridha bin Juma Al Saleh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and a number of members of the Omani trade delegation accompanying him. During the meeting, they discussed ways to enhance trade cooperation by increasing the volume of exports between the two countries, " Oman News Agency (ONA) said in a statement.
The Sri Lankan Minister of Trade said that the Sultanate of Oman and Sri Lanka enjoy distinguished trade relations. He explained that Sri Lanka has many products that are exported abroad, such as spices, tea and other products.
"The Sri Lankan government seeks to develop economic and investment relations by intensifying the visits of trade delegations between the two countries," the Minister added.
Dr Bandula Gunawardana is looking forward to visiting the Sultanate of Oman soon and meeting stakeholders in the trade sector to explore more opportunities and sign memoranda of understanding that will contribute to the development of bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and raise the volume of trade exchange between them to a level that meets the aspirations of both sides.
Basil Rajapaksa, Minister of Finance of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, also received a number of members of the Omani delegation headed by Eng. Ridha bin Juma Al Saleh. During the meeting, they discussed strengthening financial and investment cooperation relations between the two friendly countries.
The Minister of Finance of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka affirmed that his country is ready to provide financial facilities to all Omani investors wishing to invest in the stock market, foodstuffs, tourism sector and import building materials such as iron, cement and urea fertiliser.
The meeting was attended by Sheikh Juma bin Hamdan Al Shehhi, Oman's Ambassador to the Republic of Sri Lanka and Ameer Ajwad, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Sultanate of Oman.
