Grand cricket makes grand start

MUSCAT: The Grand cricket tournament 2022, a knockout tennis ball T10 tournament organised by the Grand Global Investment (GGI), began at the Al Hail Cricket Club grounds with the participation of 48 teams on the weekend.

On the first day on Friday, Karla Friends bt Qurum Tuskers by 72 runs, Bahmani CC beat Legends XI by 9 runs, Beagles CT bt Falcon by six wickets, Ruwi Smashers thrashed Rayyan Royals by 125 runs, Rebels XI beat United CC by 46 runs, Spartans beat Team 08 Muscat by 2 wickets and Desert Warriors defeated Muscat Zalmi by six wickets.

On Saturday, Tamil CC got a walkover against Jaguar Cricketers to the next round, AHC 11 got the better of Abeer Warriors by 7 wickets, Proline Knight Riders beat Deccan Stars by 9 wickets, MIS Fighters beat Rising Star Sharadi by 71 runs, Kingstar Ghubra got a walkover against BLS International Service and Adrak Blasters prevailed over Chanks Mabelah by 52 runs.

Ali Humaid al Alawi, Chairman of Grand Global Investment, opened the tournament in presence of the organising committee members.

Al Alawi said it was exciting to watch the action with many families watching the event on the weekend.

“The matches were exciting and the teams brought out their best performance. There were some families enjoying the cricket also," he said.

Tournament director Sanjit Kanojia said there were some high scoring games as 14 teams advanced to the second round.

Altaf from Ruwi Smashers became the first centurion of the tournament with a 34-ball 117 runs studded with 15 sixers.

Meanwhile, the Women's Cup matches will begin on March 12 with four matches and the remaining three matches will be played on March 26.

Indian Social Club Oman, Sun Shine International SPC, Seema Dance Academy (SDA), Indian School Al Wadi Al Kabir and Aster Hospital will compete for the honours.
