Netflix announces 10 new original Indian movies

Mumbai: Video-streaming giant Netflix announced 10 new original movies from India.

The movies will span multiple genres, ranging from drama, sci-fi, thriller, horror, comedy and romance according to a press release from the company.

Netflix has partnered with some of the biggest names in the Indian entertainment industry for the new 10 movies they announced, including Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment, Karan Johar, acclaimed screenwriter Atul Sabharwal, and Gully Boy Director Zoya Akhtar.

“When Netflix launched in India, we changed the way Indian audiences enjoy their films,” Srishti Behl Arya, Director - International Original Film, India, Netflix was quoted as saying in the release.

“Given our diversity, history and culture, India is home to powerful stories waiting to be told to audiences around the world. The depth of talent and vision of our creators is enabling us to create films our members will love. We want to be a home for India’s finest filmmakers where their stories travel to more people than ever before,” he added.

Red Chillies Entertainment will produce the Sabharwal directed 'Class of '83', which will will tell the story of an upright policeman-turned trainer whose students grapple with the complexities of honour, morals and devoation to the nation, according to Netflix.

The 10 new movies include 'Class of '83', which will be produced by Red Chillies Entertainment; the Shashanka Ghosh and Samit Basu directed 'House Arrest'; and 'Serious Men', which is based on a book by Manu Joseph and will adapted and directed for the big screen by Sudhir Mishra.
