Activities galore at Muscat International Book Fair

Muscat: Visitors to the Muscat International Book Fair can experience a plethora of activities centred on topics that are sure to interest everyone.

Several government and educational bodies, including Oman Vision 2040, Royal Oman Police, and Sultan Qaboos University have set up specialised pavilions at the book fair, to inform and educate people about their programmes and initiatives.

“Through its participation in the book fair, the Royal Oman Police aims to support research efforts related to Oman, spread legal and security culture and publicise the efforts of the ROP in addressing security phenomena through scientific research,” said Lt. Col. Khalifa bin Saeed Al Amiri, director of the Research and Studies Centre at the Sultan Qaboos Academy of Police Sciences.

Meanwhile, Oman’s largest and oldest university, Sultan Qaboos University is participating at the book fair with the theme ’35 years of inspiring generations’.
SQU’s participation aims to highlight the achievements and cultural projects of the university’s graduates, staff, as well as student-led initiatives. Student work has a role to play in developing the university’s profile, and promoting its achievements in enriching and serving the community.

Tasked with the objective of expanding Oman’s economy and leading the efforts to achieve Vision 2040, the Implementation and Follow-Up Unit of Oman Vision 2040 is another of the participants at the book fair.

The unit aims at highlighting the efforts exerted to achieve the Oman Vision 2040 in cooperation with the authorities concerned. It also aims at familiarising the community with the vision document, its themes and national priorities, as well as the mechanisms adopted to follow up the progress of implementing the vision.

A number of panel discussions on the importance of reading and awareness through books are being held at the book fair, which has so far seen a strong turnout from locals and expatriates. The Muscat International Book Fair runs until 5 March.
