Transport Ministry to establish small marine industrial zones in Oman

Muscat: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology has announced the establishment of small marine industrial zones for the maintenance of medium and small vessels and water taxi initiative.

The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology announced the road transport development plan for the year 2022 , consisting of: the control centre for land transport, raising the level of taxi service, the level of regular transport, the attractiveness of the sector, and the settlement of national cadres.

The ministry also announced several initiatives in maritime affairs, including the navigation system initiative, the establishment of small marine industrial zones for the maintenance of medium and small vessels, the "water taxi", and the Al Noamani project to register ships.

"The government’s digital transformation programme for the year 2022 includes the launch of the first phase of the unified national portal project for e-government services, the launch of 88 e-services provided to citizens and the business sector, and the simplification of procedures and preparation of engineering operations for 70 percent of basic government services, " the Ministry added

The Ministry announced projects to stimulate the digital economy for the year 2022, which include the “Jadarah Initiative” to facilitate access and experience of locally developed technical products for government institutions and companies.

An official in the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology said in the ministry's annual conference that officials will visit the governorates and hold meetings with governors and members of municipal councils to discuss road projects, including identifying bicycle paths.

With regard to the railways, an official in the ministry said that the Sohar-Khazaen track is still working on this project, and we are working on coordinating another railway track linking the Sultanate and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

In the logistical land bridge initiative, the ministry proposed a number of projects, including the completion of the dual logistical link between the ports in North Al Batinah in the Dhahirah Governorate, the completion of the dual logistical link between the Governorate of North Al Batinah and Al Buraimi, and the completion of raising the efficiency of the roads leading to the border crossings.
