Muscat: With the participation of a number of military ships of the Royal Navy of Oman and a group of military ships belonging to the navies of a number of countries, the International Maritime Exercise (IMX22) was concluded in the Omani maritime region.
The Ministry of Defence said: "The International Maritime Exercise (IMX22) in the Omani maritime region (the Strait of Hormuz, the Sea of Oman and the Arabian Sea) concluded with the participation of a number of military ships of the Royal Navy of Oman and a group of military ships belonging to the navies of a number of friendly countries includes the United States of America, the United Kingdom, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, and South Korea, with the support of the aircraft of the Royal Air Force of Oman."
The ships of the Royal Navy of Oman participating in the exercise returned to the Said bin Sultan Naval Base, announcing the conclusion of their participation in the international exercise, achieving the objectives set to enhance the national capabilities of the Royal Navy of Oman and the Maritime Security Center and their role in protecting, securing and preserving Omani waters.
The implementation of the second region exercise, hosted by the Sultanate of Oman during the period from 12 to 18 February, was to strengthen the process of security cooperation between countries, bodies, organisations and international and regional maritime security centres concerned with maritime security fields, in addition to strengthening communications, mechanisms and procedures in the exchange of information, and the acquisition of more experiences between crews and participating ships, in order to achieve maritime security in the region, facilitate the movement of international ships, and ensure the safety of shipping lines and the security of ports in Omani waters.
"It is worth noting that the implementation of the International Maritime Exercise (IMX22) was divided into a number of other international maritime areas, and was carried out simultaneously in the Arabian Gulf, the Indian Ocean, the Bab al-Mandab Strait and the Red Sea, and a number of countries and international organizations concerned with maritime security participated in each maritime area. The relationship to the safety of the seas in those important marine areas of the world," the ministry added.
