Amazon Web Services delegation visits ITA

Muscat: The Information Technology Authority (ITA) received on Sunday a delegation from Amazon Web Services company to explore the investment opportunities in the field of information and communication technology (ICT) and eCommerce as well as identifying the promising markets in the Sultanate.
The delegation was received by Dr. Salim bin Sultan Al Ruzaiqi, CEO of ITA and with the presence of His Highness Sayyid Kamil bin Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Said, Chairman of Oman Telecommunications and Information Technology Holding Company. The delegation was represented by Ritchie Shah, Director of Regional Policies (AWS) Faisal Mian, Regional Business Development Manager, and David Hammoud, President of the US-Arab National Chamber of Commerce.
During the visit, the company was briefed on the Sultanate's economic resources and the main promising investment opportunities. The delegate also was introduced to the main important outputs of the ICT and 4.0 Immerging Technologies labs which was organised by Ministry of Transport and Communications and ITA in cooperation with the Implementation Support and Follow-up Unit. The ICT Labs produced a number of projects and initiatives which were based on 3 prongs which are devises and apps, solutions and services and ICT enablers. These initiatives include 25 projects, 13 of which have been identified with high priority.
The delegation also explored the investment opportunities in the logistics sector, the free industrial zones implemented by the Sultanate, the economic resources it enjoys and the infrastructure that helps attract foreign companies. In addition, the delegation learned about the Sultanate's position regarding eCommerce and how it can benefit from investment opportunities in this area.
Towards the end of the visit, the delegation expressed their wish to further explore investment opportunities and work with the concerned entities to benefit from the vast potential of the Sultanate in the ICT and logistics sectors.
