Muscat: The Third National Obstetric Ultrasonography Training course has commenced.
The course is organised by the Women & Child Health Department of the Ministry of Health’s (MOH) in cooperation with the Royal Hospital, as well as the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (ISUOG).
26 female-doctors working in the Obstetrics & Gynaecology clinics from Oman’s various governorates are participating in the training course.
The training programme includes three phases that covers spectrum of theoretical lectures in the field along with hands-on training.
Dr. Jamila Al Abri, Director of Woman and Child Health described at the inauguration of the course the importance of conducting obstetric ultrasound by a trained doctor in improving the health of mothers and their children.
Dr. Al Abri also reviewed the efforts made by the Ministry of Health in this field since the launch of the Maternal and Child Care Programme in 1987, including the provision of ultrasound devices in primary health care institutions, and adopting training programmes in cooperation with international associations.
The opening also provided an overview of the training program and presented the requirements of completing the training.
Skills covered during this week will include the determination of the fetuses’ number and age, monitoring foetal growth, detection of ectopic pregnancy, miscarriage and fetal abnormalities.
The first phase of the training is conducted this week and to be followed by the second and third phases after six months and five months respectively. Each phase will address a variety of topics in the field of obstetric ultrasound.
